Women's Group (russian hill)

Having lived in the city for the last 3.5 years and spent a lot of time away, I haven't managed to form a strong circle of women friends - so I'm trying Craig's List :)

PURPOSE:
To discuss purpose, growth, and being the best women we can be in life;
To provide support and companionship

My vision is to create a forum where a small group of like-minded women can get together on a regular basis and talk about their purpose in life and how they're getting there - the good stuff, the hard stuff, the stuff that we're doing for our own self-growth (spiritual, emotional, mental). A forum where we listen to each other, give feedback when it's requested, where we eventually feel safe enough to discuss anything and everything, where we become friends. This group is about empowered women getting together to empower each other to move more into their inner strength, authenticity and truth so that we can collectively get more of what we want!

To begin with, we'll meet at my home in Russian Hill (Polk/Jackson) but ultimately - we can choose the locations, we can choose the format, and we can decide if we want to head out on an activity every now and then.

Here's a little about me - I'm looking for women who are like-minded:

I was born in England, lived in Hawaii for 10 years and moved to San Francisco in 2005. I've worked and lived in India, Romania and Africa. I'm driven to be the best person I can be, live my purpose and contribute to others. I find life amazing, challenging and deeply rewarding; I believe that it's that much easire with spirituality and supportive friendships. My strengths are: good listener, strong intuition, open hearted, open-minded, love to laugh, intelligent, driven by the desire to contribute to others' lives.

My work involves team-building, mentoring, and coaching groups. I've done many other things, including running an organizational/space planning business, freelance writing/editing, and operations manager. I've done a lot of volunteer work at home and abroad, am starting horse riding lessons, love to salsa dance, read, walk the city, clothes shop, travel all over the world, and hang out with friends.

I consider myself a feminine, independent, insightful, deeply self-aware, balanced woman and I'm looking for other women who see themselves in a similar way. I'm aware of my strengths and my weaknesses. I have big dreams for my future and want to be surrounded by people who cheer me on towards them.

Ideally I'm looking for women who fit this description:

AGE: this is more about your philosophy and maturity (I'm 38)
GENDER: female (I'm female!)
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: absolutely any (I'm straight)
ETHNICITY: absolutely any (I'm caucasian)
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: absolutely any (I'm single, and hoping to not be for much longer!)
MUST-HAVE TRAITS: women who see themselves as a balance between strong, independent, and also vulnerable, feminine with needs and wanting/needing to form close supportive friendships with a group of women.
Willing and able to meet in the city every Saturday from 3-5pm.

The logistics:

TOTAL IN GROUP: 4/5
MEET: every Saturday 3-5pm
START/END DATES: January 10th & the following 9 weeks (10wks total)
WHERE: My house (Polk/Jackson)
WEEKLY FORMAT:
WEEK 1 - getting to know each other (I have some exercises we can use for this :) ), briefly what we see our purpose is (if we know it), what we're doing towards it, and agreements (how we'd like to be supported, confidentiality etc.)
WEEKS 2 to 9 - each week we'll talk about what the most important thing is to each individual on that day at that time
WEEK 10 - a celebration of our 10weeks together and our successes over that time

I'll be bringing in exercises we can do to further our development and inner-searches and I'll be primary facilitator to ensure balance. There will be a co-facilitator so that I can be sure to be part of the group. It's important that you're ok with the facilitation process.

If this description resonates with you and you're interested in being part of a supportive sister group, please send me an email and say a little about each of these questions:

1. Share a little about your story.
2. Where are you in terms of your life purpose?
3. Why do you think this group would be a fit for you?
4. What are some of the personal goals you hope to have support with?
5. What are you hoping to get out of the group?
6. What can you contribute to the group?

Additionally - it's important that the time works for you - weekdays are not possible.

Many thanks. I look forward to hearing from you!

Get More Business! Be a San Mateo Professional Alliance Member (san mateo)

The San Mateo Professional Alliance is a business networking and leads club and we are looking for additional members. The club provides each member with valuable opportunities to promote his or her business or profession and to network with other business owners.

Our goal is very simple, to expand each member’s business! To do this we meet regularly to have lunch, to learn about each other’s businesses and professions and to exchange business leads. The meetings run for about an hour. Each member and each guest provides a short introduction to his or her business and explains what kinds of business leads, customers and clients the person is looking for. Then, one or two of the members delivers a 15-30 minute promotional presentation to the group telling all the other members in more depth about his or her business or profession, the types of products or services provided, and what distinguishes the member's business from its competitors.

The club’s membership is limited to only one representative from each type of business or profession. As a result, all tax and accounting referrals go to the one CPA in the club, all real estate legal matters go to the one real estate attorney in the club, everyone looking to buy or sell a home or condo are referred to the one Realtor in the club, everyone searching for a home loan is referred to the one real estate lender in the club, and so forth.

At the meetings members may display and distribute business cards, company brochures and other informational materials. A member will exchange a business lead when the member believes he has information about someone who could benefit from another member’s services or products. Business referrals are exchanged and the lead may be as simple as the name and phone number of a person the member wants to refer to another member of the club. This exchange is a very powerful tool! Wouldn’t you like to have 25 other business owners referring you business from their current and future customers and clients, friends, relatives and acquaintances?

Club members are highly motivated to expand the club’s membership base because additional members will produce more business leads and general networking opportunities for all members of the club.

Club dues are very, very low - $60 per year. Membership in the club gets you an automatic listing in the club’s website and in the club’s printed brochure (one time fee of $40). Unlike most other business leads clubs, our club is run by and solely for the benefit of the members. We do not pay high dues to some distant central ownership organization.

We are currently involved in a membership drive and are looking for new members in several categories of business. If you would like to increase the opportunities to promote your business or profession, to network with other business owners like yourself, and to increase your client or customer base, call us. Or, join us any Wednesday at 12:00 noon for lunch at the Kingfish Restaurant in downtown San Mateo located at 201 S. B Street, on the Southeast corner of B Street and 2nd Avenue. Or call Mike Foor, Realtor at (650) 430-6500. Or contact Mike Foor through his website at http://www.mikefoor.com/

We also have an informal networking session for 15 minutes just before our one hour meeting and another informal networking session for 15 minutes just after the meeting. So come early at 11:45 am if you like or stay late if you have the time between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm and network with lots of other business owners.

There’s something essential about
how our species relates with knowledge that we overlook. Something
so fundamental (pun intended), that it would change what it means to be human very
rapidly were we to discover this hidden thing. The modes of relation we use with what we understand to be
knowledge are only a tiny portion of what is actually accessible
to us — and the modes we’ve been taught to credential and enact block access
to the innate gifts we have long carried.

There are two basic species of learning-ways. One is
very self-important, and likes to make endless copies
of itself, which acquire the title ‘knowledge’.
This way of knowing is the source of what we call machines.

There is another mode doesn’t care about itself at all,
but instead actually serves as a transport — its mission
is to lead those who interact with it to a direct experience
of its sources, and then dissolve to make way for a far faster
and more useful transport to arise.

our potentials of human unity. ‘Knowledge’ tends to
accomplish the opposite, while pretending to be a unifier. I suggest that a different way of relating to knowledge
is a big part of what is missing from our human lives and history,
and the fact that it’s missing has been the primary source
of human atrocity for over 5000 years. It’s the primary
source of terror, despair, suffering and peril in our own lives
                and families.

What would happen on our world if this other way

Cognitive Activism begins with the realization that our potentials and problems as human beings have their basis in ideas, and our largely inherited relationship with them. For thousands of years, our species has been plagued by a cornucopia of fundamental errors of understanding, many of which are implicit in our relationship with language and knowledge. These obstacles commonly render our intelligence either largely ineffectual, or openly catastrophic.

Together, we will explore the cognitive evolution of our species, ourselves, and our cultures, with an emphasis on key elements in the human relationship with knowledge and understanding. Employing a novel set of highly effective models, we will discover and directly experience new ways of relating with language, knowledge, and our own intelligence.

The process will involve presentations, group activity and experiment, readings, and role-playing. Our goal will be to establish and experience profoundly active and creative relationships with each other, our world, and knowledge itself. We will learn and develop entirely novel ways to examine and experience meaning and relation, in a nurturing and challenging environment.

CorStone is a non-profit organization providing support groups and psychotherapy to individuals and couples working through many of life’s challenges including life-threatening or chronic illness, bereavement, caregiving, and aging.
We also have general support groups for the large and small concerns of everyday life.

Our Adult Program support groups are facilitated, on-going, and drop-in.

As a regular participant of one of the many Adult Program groups that CorStone offers, you are entitled to 20 sessions (5 months) of individual psychotherapy.

These services are donation driven, and free of charge.
All of our groups are located in Sausalito - short, easy drive from the freeway.

The work of CorStone is based on the belief that it is possible to choose peace rather than conflict, and love rather than fear.
At CorStone, our definition of health is inner peace, and healing is the process of letting go of fear.

For Women Who Know They Drink Too Much

If you are a woman who knows it's time for you to stop drinking, and for whatever reason 12-step programs aren’t for you (or if you simply want support in addition to another program), you are invited to check out our San Francisco meeting of Women for Sobriety (WFS). Little dogma, lots of acceptance and understanding. We laugh immoderately.

We are an abstinence-based secular group: We believe you have the power within you to stop drinking and change your life. We observe a harm reduction approach. This means that you don’t need to have to achieved ongoing sobriety before coming to our meetings. By learning from relapses, we can make one time we stumble the last one. Compared to men, women who drink experience disproportionate guilt and shame. Let's move on and get sober!

We are part of a national organization (http://www.womenforsobriety.org/ ), but uniquely San Francisco in our makeup: queer, straight, old, young. Our meetings follow a “cross-talk” format that you can see by going to the website above. The theoretical basis of WFS is cognitive-behavioral therapy, which research has shown to be the most useful technique with overcoming addictions.

We meet on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. You will be asked to identify yourself by your first name and declare that you are a competent woman. Other than that, you can sit and say nothing or participate fully. There are no fees, though we accept small donations for the national organization.

If you’re interested, please go the website above and decide whether WFS might be an organization that would suit you. Then call Jean Taylor, the S.F. volunteer moderator, for the address of our meetings (415) 282-9398.

Do you enjoy reading books about personal development & world betterment?

This book club gathers a diverse group of intelligent and caring people dedicated to personal growth and making the world a better place. It has become a nexus of meaningful connections, both personal & professional, and an incubator of world-bettering ideas.

Each meeting is limited to 8 participants. So far there are about 40 members who attend various weeks; most are professionals in their 20's - 40's, though other career paths and ages are welcome! :-)

Visitors are welcome as long as you RSVP through the invitation, which you can receive by replying via email with answers to the questions below.

The book club meets once or twice a month over dinner, and we meet at a restaurant in the Sunset neighborhood in San Francisco, near MUNI lines. Please read the vision statement below, and email me your response to the questions below to receive an invitation for the next meeting.

Book Club for Personal Development + World Betterment

Vision:
To gain inspiration and knowledge from great books -- and from each other -- on how to create and sustain positive changes in our lives and our world. The focus is on applying what we learn, rather than just discussing theory.

Origin:
The idea for the club originated from the story of a business manager who asked her staff to create a list of 30 - 40 books they think are important. Every month each of the 6 staff reads a different book and reports on it to the others. This way they all learn the essence of 72 new books a year. (from Love is the Killer App, p.86-87)

Plan:

At each book club meeting, 2 books (1 on personal development, and 1 on world betterment) are briefly presented by the presenters, and the group discusses how to apply that knowledge to our lives and our world.

Each member only needs to read and present at most 1 book every 8 weeks -- yet if you attend the club once a month you will have the opportunity to learn from 24 books each year that relate to personal development and/or a better world.

One of the unique aspects of this book club is that each member reads different books (books that speak most to her/him) and present what they read to the group. It keeps the club interesting!

Again, the intention of this group is to inspire greater passion, and clarity of direction in our lives, for the purpose of creating a better world.

If interested, please email me with the following:

Describe briefly your interest in personal development as well as world betterment--what are some topics, ideas, paths, or practices that interest you?

What do you do for a living?

Can you commit to reading and presenting on 1 book (on personal development and/or world betterment) every 8 weeks?

If you'd like, list a couple of books regarding personal development and/or bettering the world that you'd like the group to present & discuss.

Note: we are looking for members who care about both "personal development" and "world betterment" topics.

You can learn about me, the founder and organizer of the book clubs, here: GeorgeKao.com

Testimonials:

"The book club is everything I had hoped for and more: knowledge, intellectual stimulation, community, shared wisdom, and comraderie. Not only is it a place to learn, it's a place to grow. Since leaving graduate school I have missed this kind of environment, and I am grateful to have this space where real discourse is possible."
~ Joanie

"This is a group that brings together all the things I look
for in a weekend — inspiration, wisdom, advice, references, and
opportunities to build new and stronger friendships. For all these
qualities to come together is so rare in any group that I’ve ever been
in — and for this one it just seems to happen naturally. I’m always
looking forward to next time!"
~ Alex

"It is really heartening to see there are other successful professionals
who, despite the daily competitive grind, are committed to social change. The people in the group had wonderful ideas and the energy they brought to the meeting renews my faith in the human spirit."
~ Hassan

"The book club exceeded my expectations. The other members were friendly and inviting; George was warm and well prepared and the conversation was interesting and fun. I was interested in all of the books that were brought to the table and I liked the initial questions we used to introduce ourselves. I felt at home right away and I’m really looking forward to attending the next meeting."
~Suzie

Oakland Supper Club (Oakland)

Monthly meal in Oakland

How it works:

At each meal one woman is chosen to pick the next place to eat. She gets to pick a place she has not eaten before (it doesn’t matter if others have eaten where she chooses) and sends the email out through the Yahoo groups page announcing the place/time and then makes the reservation. No phone calls or nagging necessary. Whoever RSVPs is who comes. Easy. Sometimes it is 2-3 people sometimes 15.

Our only request is that if you are chosen to pick the restaurant, that you follow-through. If you can't, it's no big deal, just let someone know and someone else will pick.

The best part is the company. Another great part of it is that you can come or not come, no pressure to come all the time or any guff if you disappear for a few months. We all have busy lives and it is good to have a place to drop in for a laugh, support and perspective when you can. You may invite anyone you want, we try to keep it fresh and very un-clique oriented. The people change as folks come and go. And, of course, the food and service are always an adventure.

Feel free to come on your own, or bring a friend. The group is a mix of single, married, kids a plenty, kid-free, professionals, stay at home parents, people trying out what to do next, students, etc. – all WOMEN. It keeps it interesting and exposes us to folks who we might not otherwise meet.

I am forming an interest list for a brand new cheerleading squad for a semi-pro football team!

The squad is in its earliest stages, so any help you want to give to make this work would be appreciated (such as interest building/ recruiting, creating cheers and choreographing dances).

Ages of the cheerleaders would be 18+ (as some travel and stunting would be involved).

Team Colors: Blue, Black, White, and Silver
Team Name: Vipers
Focus: Football (and maybe cheer competitions in the off-season)
Specialty skills: Stunts

Please e-mail me if you are interested in cheering with a new squad! Cheerleading experience is very helpful, especially stunting. We should have a spot for everyone, though, so don't be put off if you have never cheered before. Just have a good attitude, a loud voice, and be ready to work hard and have fun!

Our founder had a saying "Start the revolution within yourself." If you’re looking to get in great shape and learn self defense, we invite you to stop by our school and take a complimentary class.

Adults and teens come study martial arts at the Tuyê’t Tan Dojo in Berkeley, and get a good workout while having fun in a safe environment! We’re not a large commercial school--classes are taught by experienced black belts who take pride in the quality of training and the personalized attention given to our students. The senior instructors have been teaching martial artists for over 20 years.

Our style is Cuong Nhu, which means "hard/soft" and is a blend of Shotokan Karate, Wing Chun, Vovinam, Aikido, Judo and boxing. We practice forms, basic techniques and self-defense, grapple, spar, break boards, and train with various weapons.

Dues are $60 a month, for three great workouts a week:
Monday and Wednesday - 7 to 8:30 pm
Saturday - 9:30 am to noon
1010 El Camino Real
Menlo Park, CA 94025

Come speak French with us! We get together every Tuesday to chat in French.
We meet at Café Borrone in Menlo Park in a relaxed, informal way. You can
come and go, have a bite to eat, or just have a cup of coffee. There's no set
agenda. It's just an opportunity to exercise your French with friendly people.
We generally have a mix of skill levels -- fluent/native speakers,
intermediates, and beginners. If you're seriously interested in speaking
French, we'll be happy to have you no matter what your level of proficiency.

Look for the French dictionary/flag sitting on a table to find us.
The event officially lasts an hour, but people often stay later.
